R. Scott Asen
Scott Asen is currently a private investor managing a portfolio of equity and real estate investments for his personal account. In 1966 and 1967, he co-authored a study of the put and call options markets, How to Make Money Selling Stock Options. Mr. Asen joined the brokerage firm of Mitchell, Hutchins & Co. in 1967, where he worked in the investment advisory department with responsibility for research on small technology stocks. Between 1969 and 1974, Mr. Asen was a portfolio manager with Research and Science Investors, a New York based venture capital and money management firm. From 1974 until 1977, Mr. Asen was self-employed as a journalist specializing in reporting on municipal finance issues. In 1977, Mr. Asen became a general partner of Pioneer Ventures, a group of investment entities funded originally by a wealthy New Yorker. Throughout the following two decades, Mr. Asen had primary responsibility for managing the various Pioneer Ventures entities, which were successfully liquidated over a number of years through 2002. Mr. Asen currently sits on the boards of three privately held companies, is a Trustee of Groton School and The Paris Review, and is a board member of the Island Foundation. Mr. Asen graduated from Harvard College in 1966.
Craig Burr
Craig Burr was a founder of Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., a private investment firm with over $400 million under management. Mr. Burr's career has been devoted almost exclusively to venture capital and private equity activities, having founded Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co. in 1979. Previously, Mr. Burr was a Partner at TA Associates. In addition, he has been a member of the Board of Directors of the New England Venture Capital Association and currently serves on the Board of Directors of several private companies. Mr. Burr received his Bachelors Degree, cum laude, from Harvard College and his M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
Dave Carver
David Carver is a co-founder of Search Fund Partners. He and his partner, Rich Kelley, have spent the last four years developing and managing the SFP portfolio. He is on the Board of iNet Interactive, Behavioral Health Group, iVize, ECI, and VRI. He was formerly on the board of ProService Hawaii. David spent thirty years as an executive in the high tech industry, and has extensive experience in all phases of business, including M&A, fund-raising, corporate strategy and operations. He was CEO of HiFive!, an application service provider; CEO of Hipbone Networks, an online collaboration company; EVP and GM at Network Associates; COO of Network General; EIR at Institutional Venture Partners; and an executive at Hewlett-Packard, including ten years in the professional service/software divisions of HP. Dave has an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business and a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Arkansas. Dave and his wife Julia have two boys, RJ and Sam. He is active in community and non-profit organizations, having founded the Redwood Chapter of National Junior Basketball serving 650 children.
Bob Dahl
Bob Dahl is a founding Member of Arrowhawk Capital Partners, an investment management firm which manages a multi-strategy, institutionally-focused fund. From April 1999 until June 2006, Mr. Dahl served as the head of Global Healthcare for the Carlyle Group, a leading private equity firm with over $50 billion of equity under management, where he was responsible for the firm’s investments in the healthcare field. During his tenure at Carlyle, Mr. Dahl served on the investment committee of the U.S. buyout funds, including the $7.9 billion Carlyle Partners IV and the $3.9 billion Carlyle Partners III funds. Mr. Dahl also served on the investment committee of the $430 million Carlyle Mezzanine Partners. Prior to Carlyle, Mr. Dahl served as co-head of healthcare investment banking in North America at Credit Suisse First Boston. Earlier in his career Mr. Dahl was a CPA for Price Waterhouse. Mr. Dahl is a graduate of the Harvard Business School, where he was elected a Baker Scholar and received a Loeb Rhodes fellowship. He received a B.A. from Middlebury College. Mr. Dahl is a director of Amkai LLC, Ika Systems Corporation and Slate Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
William Egan
Bill Egan is a founder and General Partner of Alta Communications. He co-founded Alta's predecessor firm, Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., in 1979 and has identified and backed several of America's leading growth companies in the information technology, life sciences, and communications industries. Prior to founding Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., Mr. Egan was a Partner at TA Associates. He began his career as a Manager of Venture Capital for New England Enterprise Capital Corporation. Mr. Egan is the past President and Chairman of the National Venture Capital Association, a Trustee of Fairfield University, a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Graduate Board Member of The Wharton School. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Village Voice Media and Cephalon, Inc. Mr. Egan received a degree in Economics from Fairfield University and an MBA from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Finance.
Rich Kelley
Rich Kelley is a co-founder of Search Fund Partners, having started the firm in 2004. He currently serves on the Boards of Directors of San Francisco Legal, Celebrity Kids, H&R Accounts, Asset Recovery Corporation and Medical Positioning, Inc. Rich has been involved in numerous small businesses and start-up companies as an operator, owner, and investor. His varied experience includes: CFO of Score Learning Centers, CEO of San Jose Giants, General Partner of two small hotels (Stanford Terrace Inn and Lake Merritt Hotel), developer of houses and subdivisions, owner of office buildings, investor in successful tech start-ups (Coinstar, PLX Technology, Corcept Therapeutics). He has also invested in many limited partnerships, including venture funds, and has been involved as a search fund investor since 1994. Rich has an MBA from Stanford and a BA from Stanford. Rich and his wife Gina have two children, Riley and Sam. He was recently an elected school board trustee and is active with the Positive Coaching Alliance and Sustainable Conservation as an advisor.
Daniel Maier
Daniel Maier is the Vice President for Worldwide Inside Sales and North America Mathcad Sales for PTC, Parametric Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: PMTC). PTC is one of the world's largest independent software companies focused purely on product development and product lifecycle management with over 40,000 customers worldwide. In his current role at PTC, Dan manages sales organizations in various regions of the world, including North America, Europe, China, Taiwan, Japan and India. Dan’s experience at PTC spans the last 8+ years, recently as the Vice President for Asia Pacific Channel Sales, where he lived in Shanghai, China from 2005-2007. He was primarily responsible for building and structuring the channel sales and channel partner program, PTC Channel Advantage, throughout Asia Pacific. Before joining PTC, Dan was a Captain in the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina as a Field Artillery Officer in the 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment. Dan is a graduate of Loyola College in Maryland, where he served as Student Body President and was the recipient of the Rev. McGuire Alumni Association Award.
Michael O'Connell
Mike O'Connell is currently the Managing Director of M2O Investments, a family investment fund. He was formerly the Managing Director and President of Anhalt, O'Connell & Steffanci, Inc., an investment management firm specializing in debt securities with $1 billion under management. Previously, Mr. O'Connell owned and operated the National Lines Bureau, a ship mooring company for the Los Angeles and Long Beach Harbors. He is currently an investor in over 20 private companies. Mr. O'Connell received a BA, with high honors, from Harvard College and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Tushar Shah
Tushar Shah is a Partner at Kinderhook Partners. Prior to Kinderhook, Tushar was a Principal at Geocapital Partners, a leading venture capital firm managing over $500 million in a series of partnerships in North America and Europe. Before Geocapital, Tushar was a strategy consultant with the Monitor Group, where he led a range of projects in New York, London and Tel Aviv. Tushar was also a WorldTeach volunteer in Ecuador. Tushar is a CFA charterholder and received a B.A. in Economics from Williams College.
Howard Stevenson
Howard Stevenson is the Baker Foundation Professor and the Sarofim-Rock Professor of Business Administration, Emeritus at Harvard Business School and Chairman of the Board of NPR (National Public Radio). He has authored, co-authored, or edited six books, forty-one articles, and over one-hundred-fifty Harvard Business School case studies. Prof. Stevenson was a founder and the first president of the Baupost Group, Inc., an investment management firm that manages partnerships investing in liquid securities for wealthy families, which he grew to over $400 million in assets. Prof. Stevenson is also an investor and board member in numerous private and public companies. He received his BS in mathematics, with distinction, from Stanford University and his MBA, with high distinction, and DBA degrees from Harvard Business School.
Kevin Taweel
Kevin Taweel is the Chairman of Asurion, a wireless services provider of insurance, warranties and road-side assistance. Mr. Taweel guides the company's growth and success in close cooperation with executive management and the board of directors. He co-founded Asurion in 1994. Prior to launching the company, he was the president of Mill River Corporation, an investment company. He also has experience in Mergers & Acquisitions investment banking with Salomon Brothers. He earned an M.B.A. from Stanford University's Graduate School of Business and holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from McGill University. Mr. Taweel is a recent recipient of the prestigious Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
A.J. Wasserstein
A.J. Wasserstein is a private equity investor focusing on lower middle market services companies. Previously, A. J. was the founder and CEO of ArchivesOne, the third largest records management company in the United States. He successfully built ArchivesOne into a super-regional, full-service records management company before selling to Iron Mountain (NYSE: IRM) in May of 2007 after 16 years of operation. At ArchivesOne, 35 acquisitions were successfully completed to supplement growth. ArchivesOne employed 400 Team Members and had approximately 10,000 customers with total revenues of $50 million. Mr. Wasserstein graduated from Colgate University and received his MBA from New York University. He is a Trustee at Waterbury Hospital and the Connecticut Community Foundation and a board member at IPT and Ivize.
Kent Weaver
Kent Weaver is CEO of Progressive Home Care, a Northern California-based home health care company. Previously, Mr. Weaver held executive positions in marketing and product management with KnowledgeLINK, a VC-backed startup. Before that, Mr. Weaver served as a regional CFO and business analyst in Pepsico's Pizza Hut Division and as a management consultant at Ernst & Young. Mr. Weaver received his MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles and a BS in finance from the University of Southern California.
